Description
Well-heeled Asprey is on its own now that it has split from Crown jeweler Garrard. Founded in 1781, today Asprey sells jewelry, silver, watches, and high-end leather goods and accessories from about 15 shops in the UK, US, Japan and Switzerland. Asprey International (formerly A&G Group) was formed in 2006 as a holding company for the money-losing Asprey and Garrard businesses. Soon after, Garrard was sold for an undisclosed sum to Yucaipa Companies, an American investment firm best known for its prowess in the supermarket industry. Asprey International is owned by Sciens Capital, an investment firm that specializes in distressed companies, and Plainfield Asset Management, a US hedge fund.
